A highly sought after Music Producer, Sound Engineer and gifted musician playing drums, keyboards & bass. He has over 20 years experience in the music industry, starting out as a bedroom DJ & Beat-maker to becoming Mercury Nominated and one of the founders of The Lab Studios.

With co founder Kwadjo, Drew started The Lab Studios under the name of Ancient records in 2001 with the help of a Prince’s Trust loan. Today, Drew is the driving force behind The Lab and its success.

In various music circles, Drew Horley is considered a highly sought after Music Producer, Musician, Engineer and Technician, self taught and educated in music technology and sound engineering as well as being gifted musician playing drums, keyboards & bass and various drum machines.

He has won various awards including a Music Technology 1998, UK Hip Hop Awards; Best Producer 2002 (DozeGuyz) & Best Newcomer 2002 (Psychic Phenomena) and a Mercury Prize Nomination 2004 with artist Ty for his album Upwards and has continued to work with an number of reputable artists including production for Ty on four of his albums, Awkward (Big Dada 2001), Upwards (Big Dada 2003), Closer (Big Dada 2006) and A Special Kind Of Fool (BBE Records 2010).

He has also produced for one of the UK’s finest Soul & Jazz singers and MOBO Nominee 2007, Natalie Williams on her album Secret Garden (East-Side Records 2006) and has also collaborated with artists such as De La Soul, Estelle, Jay Sean, Master Ace, Lyric L, Andrew Roachford, Nate James, Misty Oldland, Shea Soul as well as some of the UK’s finest independent artists. Film and TV credits include a song collaboration with music partner Ty, commissioned by the actor Don Cheadle for the film Oceans 12, SKY Sports Cricket Theme 2006, and a number of Music compositions & Sound design for various corporate companies and film production companies. Drew also has over 10 years of experience teaching for various organisations such as Apples & Snakes and Lewisham College and was involved in an Arts Council funded project celebrating 25 years of Apples & Snakes (The UK’s most respected and established Poetry organisation) where he mentored young music producers for coming up with music for the album. Other projects include producing for the artist Emmanuel Jal, a former child solider from South Sudan who has travelled the world, performed for Nelson Mandela and now puts his fight into the music and his charity Gua Africa to build a school in his home country in the name of the British aid worker who saved his life, Emma McCune. Drew has toured and performed around the world with Emmanuel as his MD & Drummer.

In recent years, projects include Ty’s EP A Kick Snare & an Idea parts 1 & 2 (True Thoughts 2013) and is currently working on Ty’s 5th studio album. He has also produced for the artist Shea Soul including her play listed single Where Did You Go? and the majority of her debut album coming soon. Other artists drew is currently working with include Wreh-asha, Louise Golbey and Aisling Stephenson

More recently, Drew has teamed up with a production partner Unity to embark on a new project producing a mixture of Deep House and Dance Music incorporating Drew’s soulful side with uptempo housey beats and baselines. Under the name of Drew Beats & Unity, the pair have already played a number of exclusive PA’s at the world famous Ministry of Sound and have already created a buzz around their DJ sets and production.
