Drew Horley’s music journey began in the early ’90s when he met Dom G at college. The two quickly formed a creative partnership, making beats and writing rhymes as teenagers. As Double P (originally Psychic Phenomena), they became fixtures in the UK Hip Hop scene—regularly featured on Choice FM’s Friday Night Flavas with DJ 279 & Teddy Ted and performing at the legendary Flava of the Month nights at The Borderline in London.
The Whole Circumference, was released in 1997 on Low Life Records, followed by The Slip Stream a few years later on Stonegroove Recordings.
In 1999 Drew began working with UK Hip Hop pioneer TY—both a visionary rapper and producer—on his debut album Awkward (2001), contributing to underground classics such as The Tale. Their partnership continued on TY’s Mercury Prize–nominated album Upwards (2004), which they co-produced, bringing international recognition and leading to a collaboration with US Hip Hop legends De La Soul on TY’s follow-up Closer (2006). Over the next two decades, Drew and TY continued to work closely together across Special Kind of Fool (2010), the Kick Snare and an Idea EP (2013), A Work of Heart (2018), along with countless singles, helping shape a unique sound of Hip Hop with a blend of sharp lyricism and soulful, groove-driven production. Sadly, TY passed away on May 7, 2020, at the age of 47 due to complications from COVID-19. Drew continues to honour his friend and collaborator through his ongoing work as a producer,
In 2001, Drew co-founded Lab Studios in Clapham, South London. Over two decades, the studio became a creative home for both major-label and independent talent across Hip Hop, Soul, Pop, and Dance music. Countless projects passed through its doors, including collaborations with Estelle, Burna Boy, Andrew Roachford, Jay Sean, and many others. After 21 years, Lab Studios closed its doors in 2022, but its legacy remains as a hub that shaped a generation of UK music.
