Why mixing and mastering?

If your songs are just not loud enough or you’re having trouble balancing the instruments in your song or you just cant get the vocals to sit properly in your mix, or your drums sound a bit flat, then the answer is to have your songs mixed & mastered by one of our professionally trained engineers who will have the technical knowledge and experience to get your songs sounding the way it should for commercial release.

Mixing

This is the second to last stage in completing a song and is typically used for balancing the elements of the song, getting the drums and bass sounding sonically correct, making sure the vocals and musical parts are not fighting each other in the mix and usually when effects such as reverb, delays, compression and eq is used. This is also the stage that needs to be right before mastering takes place as mastering, as many people believe, cannot perform miracles.

Mastering

This is the final stage before releasing a single, EP or album and is like putting the icing on the cake which adds the clarity & sparkle the songs need for a commercial release.

Using a combination of EQ, multi-band compression and limiting, mastering brings the level and sonics up to the  industry standard ready for digital distribution and CD duplication. However, the secret to a getting the perfect master is getting the mix right in the first place.

Why use us?

In this digital age of creating music, sometimes the end result can end up sounding flat, cold and lacking the depth that is required for commercial release. That is why we pride ourselves in using a mixture of digital and analog equipment to create a sound that is often heard in much larger and expensive studios. We also have the experience to take your mixes to the next level.

In the centre of our studio lives a lovely Toft ATB analog mixing console which is designed by Malcolm Toft who built the original Trident Series 80’s console heard on countless hits since the late 70’s. The Toft ATB allows us to separate the audio from our high end audio interfaces and create much warmer, bigger and wider mixes than you would achieve mixing in the box.
